Looking for ways to display built up figures as they get built ?

I have lots and lots and lots of built 1/35 figures that are not painted. Now I just have them in groups layed flat between kits on the shelves.

If  they never get painted I would at least like to have them upright so they could be seen.

thought about just a drop of CA glue on their feet and glue them to strips of evergreen plastic? and I could mark on the plastic the name of the set so I can match it up with the box art and extra pieces that were saved but not attached yet.  So many diorama ideas, so little time.

I priced that stuff and it sure is expensive.  Ideas for a cheaper medium that I could use to get these guys standing up?

thx - Craig

How about using white glue, instead?

How do you hold your figures, while you paint them?  For some of mine, I drill a small hole in a foot or somewhere else on the figure, and use a toothpick, sometimes with a drop of white glue.  I have some holders made out of paint can caps, with holes drilled in them.  This works well for my plastic and resin figures in 1/35 / 1/32 or 1/48, because they're relatively lighter.

If you use a holder like this, you could put a piece of masking tap on the stick and make a note on it.

Regarding your method, I'd worry that in removing them from the strip, would damage the existing paint job, if I had used CA glue.  Either you use force and snap the join, which could take paint away with it, or you use a solvent that dissolves CA--acetone is the one that I use to clean up CA--which could damage the figure.  White glue would dissolve with warm (not so hot that it scalds) water, and be less likely to damage any paint.

I think you answered your own question about your grey army display.  Gluing them to scrap sprues that you would throw out anyways is a savings.  Maybe white glue is cheaper by the drop so if you eat a lot of popsicles you can glue them onto the leftover sticks or cut out square bases from cereal boxes?
