Hey pretty darn cool and I love the base. I hope your friend was impressed!

Good advice there from the guys, Give their ideas a whirl and your next bust will be even better Yes

Some thoughts...

First, you've done a realy nice job in displaying this bust. Much nicer than a simple plinth.

Add some pupils to the eyes. With a blue as light as that, you want to try for a couple shades, a darker ring around the iris, for example. Also, adding a catch light, a tiny dot of white will give a lot of life to your eyes. Look at the eye on the left of the first picture Gino posted above this to see what I mean.

Next, avoid white for teeth. Go with an ivory or even very light tan with ivory highlights, instead.

Three, work on keeping your colors on what you are painting.. There's a lot of paint where it's not supposed to be, e.g. green on the helmet buckle.

You have some sort of stringy thing across the left *** pocket.

Finally, try to add more highlight and shading across the board. Take a look at the stuff on Planet Figure and TimeLines Forums to see what I mean.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

It looks pretty nice.  You have done a great job on the BDUs.  There are only two issues I see with it.  The first is the 198th patches on the sleeves.  They are way too small.  They should be about the size of the space on the sleeves.  The other is the camo face paint.  It looks way too dark and uniform.  I have worn it and seen it and you can usually see the skin tone through it, esp. around the eyes, ears, mouth, and neck.  Also, there are areas were flesh still shows through.  You rarely see it covering everywhere.

Here are some examples:

200mm Bust. US. Infantry, circa 1989 (Operation Just Cause)

I made this bust for a friend (a 1SGT)  who is currently stationed with the 25th Infantry Division. Back in 1989 he was assigned to the Airborne Infantry Bn  of the 193rd Infantry Brigade in Panama during Operation Just Cause.

To create this bust I started with the Verliden's 200mm Army American Heroes Bust #1805 which depicts a soldier during Desert Storm. Since both Operation were of the same time it was not an issue for equipment or uniform.

The figure was painted using Testors' Master Modeler enamel paints. The face was painted with arts&Craft acrylic paint.

Only changes I made were:

Left off the smoke grenade

Added a color photo of the 193rd Inf Bde patch to the front of the pedestal. (Photoshop 5.5 generated)

added subdued unit patches on both shoulder's of the bust (Photoshop 5.5 generated)

Craved a M9 Bayonet placed behind the Color patch.

Attached pedestal to a stained and sealed arts & craft wood plaque.

Added the Airborne and Jungle Expert Tabs to the base.
