Mark Thomas' 1/72 Eastern Front Scenes

This is not my work, it belongs to Mark Thomas and these more than interesting scenes (gaming pieces placed upon game panels) are used by him for illustrating the 300 pages book “World War Two: When The Time Comes”, by Mark Thomas.

The book is almost finished but not ready yet. Still, I had the great opportunity to read a part of it and I think it is more than useful and attractive, both thanks to the writting skills and to the extremely interesting way of illustrating various battles and other scenes. In those scenes no pieces are fastened with glue, all are removable. The “background sky” panels are hand painted also by Mark.

The book is more about history, and a brief chapter at end talking about wargames and making models- from a wargamer’s point of view.

Mark decided to not use available old black & white photographs from the war, but to illustrate the book with his own color images- using 3-dimensional models. The vehicle kits have many scratch-built items, a lot of buildings are also scratch-built and there are hundreds of figure conversions in order to match a particular scene.

I think this is a wonderful approach and definitely it involved a huge number of hours to create the scenes. The featured images are extracted only from 2 chapters and I hope you will enjoy those as much as me. The here presented images target the Eastern Front, including some dedicated to Stalingrad.

Many thanks to Mark Thomas for giving me the opportunity to show a small part of his great work.
