1/8 Aurora Knights, Blue and Silver
Posted by markgloper on Sunday, April 15, 2012 11:38 AM

I have contacted Revell Customer Service and Support inquiring if they have any plans to reissue the 1/8 scale Blue and Silver Knight Kits.  I was informed that they have no plans to reissue these kits but their "Product Development Team is always looking at subject matter to add to their product line".

If you, like me, are interested in seeing these kits reissued please contact Revell Customer Service and Support and ask them to consider releasing again these Aurora kits.

You can contact customer service all you want, but I wouldn't hold my breath.  Sorry, but I enjoyed building 2 of these kits in the early 60's (now long gone) and I don't think they'll be coming back.  If you want to build these kits today (as I have) you'll have to buy them off e-bay, and be willing to pay significantly more than the original cost of the kit (around $1.25, as I recall).  I have 3 of the 5--- black, blue, and silver.  Still looking for the red and gold.  Might be the worst fitting kits that I have ever come across, but really a lot of fun--- especially face painting with oils, and the use of metalizers.

The red, black, and gold are listed in the new Squadron catalog.

Glad to help. Now all I have to do is find the blue and silver to complete my set. I too built them as a kid and want to do it again.

I'm not sure why Revell would only reissue 2 of the 5 Knights, but like I said, I ended up having to find mine on e-bay.  You could call customer service and ask if more are coming, but when our friend who started this thread contacted them they didn't even know they were producing them.  The squadron catalog notes that the Revell re-issues are from the old Aurora molds.  That means they should be true to the old kits (poor fit and all.......).  Following your tip, I went ahead and ordered both Red and Gold Knights from squadron, and can't wait for them to be delivered.  I'll let you know if there are any surprises.

I checked the ones I have and found minimal flash. They look like they should build up reasonably. I don't remember too many problems with fit or other issues. Of course I built them about 50 years ago, and have probably forgotten some things. I read a while back that 2 of the molds were destroyed in a train wreck near Chicago. Probably Blue and Silver. Also the boxes say Monogram, but the copyright on the instructions say Revell, 2011.

OldFart,  You sound like a man after my own heart.  I also intend to build, not just collect, these kits.  I just received the Red and Gold Knights, so now I have all 5 kits and I'm rarin' to go.  The biggest challenge for me in building the Black Knight was painting the face (using oils)--- I had never done a figure before--- but with a bit of on-line instruction I got through it and it actually turned out pretty good.  Now that I have all the rest of the kits, I think my approach will be to spend time up front painting all the faces at once.  Then I'll take the kits one at a time from there.  Also, I'm really looking forward to using metalizers, metal foil, and the like on the armor and other trappings.  Of course my enthusiasm never does match my energy these days (for I am also an old fart), so it might be some time before I complete the set.  If I can figure out how to master the photobucket thing, I'll post photos as I complete them.  Hope to see yours in the future as well.  This is going to be FUN.........  enjoy!

Tom

p.s.  I noticed another thread about the 5 Knight colors just popped up and it has my original question from 2 years ago.  I guess (a few) folks are still interested.  T.
