Incoming 1968
Posted by captfue on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 11:14 PM

Hello: this is my latest work. It is a 1/16th scale original sculpt using only leftover sprue as my sculpting matieral. The figure is that of a US Marine taking cover during the battle of Khe Sahn, during the Tet offensive of 1968.

Thanks for looking

Nicely done! Do you normally build from scratch? That's very impresive.

You should add a sling to the rifle. The USMC went into VN with the m1and later the M14 with the leather strap.

Thanks for the input guys: I do scratch build exclusivley these days, not that I'm  some super modeler or anything like that. It's just a lot cheaper this way.

Nice catch on the sling,I'll put one on today.

Very nice...so do you dissolve the sprue in liquid cement and work from it in that state???

No That's not the wayI work it, but it might work, I'll try it some day. What I do is I'll use a hot knife to melt the plastic to build up an original piece. Then refine it with dremal, sandpaper and carving. Things like canteens...ect I'll make a silecone mold and heat the plastic in toaster oven till it conforms to the mold.

Thanks for you'r wonderful comments.
