Funny, I thought about 'THEM' later yesterday evening!  Might have to pull out my DVD and watch it this Halloween.

Mitsdude: You might check out 28mm wargaming/role-playing game figures. There are a couple of companies that make Second World War figures - they're not too far off 1/48th scale. They're about one inch / three cm tall.

Here's one company and dealer I've bought from in the past just as an example- there are more out there:

Mr. Stickpusher is a fan of old movies and will recognize that scene as the inspiration for the Frank Zappa song "Cheepnis".

The National Guard has formed up at the base

of the mountain

And is attempting to lure the enormous poodle

towards the cave

Where they hope to destroy it with napalm

A thousand of the troopers are now lined up

and are calling to the monster...

I would start with silver and do a translucent red over it. The color is actually pretty orange, what I would call "Carmine".

Maybe try looking for some old 1/40 scale figures. Life Like or whoever made them and they were usually in that 50's style US uniforms.

I'll post when I finish it.

I didn't want to get started until I found a second Heller ant. After almost a year wait one finally appeared on ebay last week. They aren't that in demand or expensive but are very hard to find.

I incorrectly thought human figures would be easier to find than what they have been. However I'm gonna go ahead and get started as the figures can easily be added. I can use some air crew 1/45 figures I already have to use as "stand-ins" to get the correct positioning

These fire ants from New Mexico/Nevada are even worse

Gunze does make a beautiful "Russet Brown" color that word work for your purposes.

Actually that movie is exactly what I'm building a diorama of!

I'll have to check out that Russet Brown. Thanks

I want a flame thrower dude in 1/45ish but havent found one. Tamiya has a 1/45 WW2 set that has a bazooka man and some firing riflemen that looks like the best option.

I tried 1/72 but they were just too tiny. 1/35ish were to big.

Well, the ones in my yard are a kinda cherry red. I'd think hull red or 'rust' would work well. To get a glassy look you might try over-spraying the red with Tamiya transparent red, it adds a nice glossy translucent finish.

As a matter of fact I just bought some Tamiya transparent red last week! I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the idea.

Red ant - the insect

Does anyone have a suggestion for a  "red ant" color?

A shade of dark red or even into dark brown maybe? A color that almost looks black.

Also something that is kinda glassy looking.
