Looking for 1/24 scale Viet Nam soldiers and helicopter pilots
Posted by whtwlf2501 on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 10:57 PM

Anyone know where I can find 1/24 scale Viet Nam soldiers and helicopter pilots that I can use with the Revell/Monogram  Huey? I have searched Ebay and a couple of retailer sites and found nothing.

Thanks for the help in advance,

            Robert

Well, this looks like a tough one! The only 1/24 figures I have experience with, are truckers from Italeri's truck accessories. So that would mean lots of modifications, at least the "driver" pose would be OK for a pilot. You could also try to check with the Preiser company - they make lots of figures in odd scales. If they have anything American in 1/24 or close - I don't know, but maybe you can find some good miodification bases (like I bet they have a policeman - already in uniform, you could go from there). Hope it helps, good luck with your project and have a nice day

Never sculpted but it may be a thought. Especially with the sculpting article in the new issue.

Thanks

The scale you are looking for is 75mm. There's a fair range in pewter and metal, but they are mostly ancients or fantasy. I did find a 1976 Marine Captain which was as close as I could get, but his uniform doesn't look right as he has canvas leggings (?).

Green army men are just a bit too small.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Hi Robert.

when I built my 1/24th Huey as an air ambulance I had to create the flight crew from a collectioon of figure parts fron Hasagwa and Fujimi car drivers and mechanics. and a few other odds and sods. The following are a few pixtures I took during the build process.

I hope that these are of some help to you. I'm not normaly a fly guy but since this one was in my scale I had to build it.

In the past there were several driver/mechanic kits available in 1/24-1/25th scale. I usually throw all the parts in a box then mix, match and cut  as I need to to get the pose I'm after.

Thanks

Carl

Thanks again guys. It is looking more and more like this may be what I have to do. I was given a couple more places to check by a shop that deals in wargaming figures. If I find anything I will post it here.
