Verlinden 54mm Cannonade Station
Posted by highlanderburial on Sunday, September 15, 2013 10:30 AM

This is my kit of a 54mm Cannonade Station. I painted it in acrylics, but it is clear from the photos, I need more oil paints.

I really wish that the kit had come with some of the hand tools like the wormer or tampion.

Thanks for looking!

Nice job on this one, really captures the era of wooden ships and iron men.

For extra tools, have you considered scratch building?  I can't imagine it being too difficult as they were quite simple things.

As for acrylics vs oil paints, when it comes to flesh tones (and figures in general), there is  a big difference on their respective technique of application - but you can still achieve great looking figures with acrylics.

regards,

Jack

Jgeratic, thanks for the post. Yah, I most likely could have scratchbuilt some tools, but I really would have loved verlinden to put them in. Alas it was a good learning kit. Onward and upward with the learning curve!

Nice job.

I know eyes are a challenge, but this guy's eyes are on the weak side: not looking at the same place. Don't be afraid to repaint eyes several times. Check the alignment of the pupils in a mirror. I don't know why,but that helps a lot in getting them straight.

You might want to retouch the cannonballs. In the last pic, it looks like the paint from the floor section has hit them on the outside of the model. Verlinden has some nice subjects in these lines but often has issues with the castings, warping, instructions, etc.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
