Celtic Chieftan or Roman Officer?
Posted by cassibill on Monday, February 23, 2004 5:33 PM
I just had a crazy idea. Mom loves Irish Wolfhounds and I was wondering what the largest figs of these two subjects were to pair one with. The cheiftan would be a natural pairing but Mom loves a quote about a gift of 7 of the breed that a roman officer sent his brother..."and all of Rome stared at them in wonder." I though I'd scratch build the dog and do a pairing for Mom for a gift at some point. She'll be sixty next year.. might be a good idea. I'm thinking 54mm at least hopefully bigger. Thanks guys.

Cassibill,

Found this website for you.
http://www.irishwolfhounds.org/history.htm

gives a brief history of the breed and some period references. Personaly, I'd like to see the Romans with them, since it is was such a marvel for them to own these dogs. The Celts are just as important and put a similar value with them, but it seems so...."normal" . Sort of like presenting a German Shepherd with a German soldier. Its so predictable.

Good luck

Mike

Thanks, Mike. I hadn't found that "Wolfie" site before. I thought the Roman/Wolfie pairing would be more interesting too, and it'll be easier to find an appropriate figure. The trick is to pick the right figure. The Wolfie will be brindle and wheaton like old Sean was. He was one of the bulkier ones. Our females was more like a greyhound. Seanie was tank.
