I've used that little netting that you get when you go a wedding. It's the stuff that the bird seed or rice is wrapped in. The holes are a little big but I thing it look real good.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

I don't know if anyone else has ever tried this , but I once used the screen comonly found in kitchen facet and it seemed to be about the right scale , you'll need to do a little forming but it works , also pantyhose works real good but I see someone else said that .

I'd go with old pantihose form your wife/girlfriend. Medical gauze would be too wide a mesh.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
