--though I agree with the others, I don't think I've ever seen figures sculpted specifically to represent USAF personnel in cold-weather gear.  However, I recommend looking for figures that are available, and modifying them.  If you never have before, it's a good exercise and a valuable skill.  You can take a figure like some of the standing mechanics in the Aerobonus catalog and use putty to sculpt details like the parka you mentioned.  I'd use Aves A&B, for example, or Miliput.

I just did a quick sweep of E-Bay under 1/48 pilots and 1/48 Tamiya.

You may want to check out the ICM kits,  they made a whole slew of pilots and ground personnel for WWII.  You may find something to convert.  Also Tamiya has swamped the 1/48 scene, again with 1/48 troops that you may be able to carefully choose or to convert.  

Both of these manufacturers at least have the basics for good quality conversions.

The Monogram Ground crew figures that come with their various 1/48 aircraft kits are another option, although you would have to modify them. You may want to look into some resin figures by companies such as Verlinden or CMK. They may have something along the lines of what you are looking for.

You guys might be right.  The old memory banks get fogged in at times. Maybe I am thinking about the figures that came in the old Monogram Tri-motor with the dog sled.  Anyways, thanks for the input.

I'll have to echo Stik here. I have never come across Fujmi USAF figures. All of the ground crew figures I have seen tend to be more general figures rather than for certain regions or climates. I build German aircraft and there are lots of figures for those, but I have never come across ground crew in desert or cold weather clothing.

If you do come across anything, would sure be interesting to see them, but I feel you may have a luckless search.

Fujimi did some USN modern Carrier Deck crew figures in 1/48. They were also reboxed by Testors. I don't recall ever coming across any Fujimi Air Force ground crew figures. Not to say that they never made any, but I sure did not see any of them.

Thanks for the reply, but those figures are not going to work for me.  I am thinking that maybe Fujimi did some cold weather geared figures, years ago.  I am trying to build a diorama depicting a winter scene in Alaska.  I will keep looking.

US Army. When I enlisted in 83 those were on the way out, being replaced by the then new woodland camo BDUs, and both the green vinyl rain suits and green fatigues (but not the jungle fatigues) were referred to as pickle suits in our slang. Out Army issue horrid yellow PT gear was a banana suit.

pickle suits?  I never heard fatigues called that before.  Where did that term  come from?

Hasegawa goes make some late Cold War USAF Ground Crew figures in 1/48. A pair of sets with pilots and ground equipment I do believe. But they are in basic "pickle suit" fatigues and not in any sort of cold weather gear.
