Some of my work
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 12, 2004 8:58 PM
Hi folks. I just started posting here the other day, and realized I was happily dispensing lofty advice without a proper introduction or a sample of my own work, so here ya go. I'm only just putting the website together, so I've attached these images, but there will be plenty more at the site when I get done. These are all original pieces of mine, sculpted in Magic Sculpt epoxy putty, with styrene, thread and wire for details, and painted by brush in oils and enamals. Some of the pics were taken at an IPMS show, while the others were done at home. They are all 1/9th scale or larger, though I work in all scales.

I did this bust in 1997. This is actually a resin casting I made from the original sculpture, with the idea that I was going to start producing kits of my own (if only there were time!!!). I have an officer's head that also works with the kit.

I did this 1/6th scale figure last summer for the last IPMS show in my area. Life got very busy as I was working on it and I wasn't able to fully finish it, which left me with 3rd place at the show. I was working on it right up until it was time to put it in the box and leave for the show, and I knew it wouldn't be as overwhelming as I had invisioned. Oh well, it was a optimistic goal to shoot for when I concieved the idea, and the desire to have it ready for the up coming show was just beyond me. I spent about two months on it total. I will eventually make some modifications to minor anatomy issues and improve the painting and ground work. This was my first 1/6th scale figure.

This is another bust I did around '97, as part of what would have been the first batch in my product line. This is also a resin casting.

This was my first large scale figure, 1/9th to be exact. The AK47 is made from styrene and copper wire. The grenades and canteens were made from epoxy putty and styrene, and then molded so that I could squirt out as many as I needed.

I'd have added more good detail shots, but I didn't want to bog things down for everyone trying to view them. When I get the site working I'll post a link where there'll be lots more stuff which can be seen at your leisure.

Enjoy.

Hi and welcome, plymonkey

I went to your link and would like to commend you on your fine work. The archer and German infantryman are my 2 favorites.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed them.

From the sandles to the tip of the bow the samurai stands 18 1/2" tall. I had originally intended to have him firing out of a loophole in a castle wall, since he's shooting on a level plain rather than in the air at a distant target. How he is aiming was an oversight when I was sculpting the armature. To compensate, I decided to make him into a lower level officer or retainer, called into action as the enemy drew close to his lord's observation point. I didn't have the time to do the castle, sadly. It would have been a marvelous piece. Maybe someday I'll do it.
