The Mummy!

This is of course the old Aurora kit, mine is a Revell reboxing. For such an old kit it has excellent detail and was a lot of fun to build.

Wow, very cool! Love how he came out!

Just two quick questions if I may, how was sanding off the seam lines without ruining the bandage detail? And did you use a wash, dry-brushing to pull out the detail???

The fit was good despite the age of the molds, i used different grades of fine sandpaper on the seems to try and not destroy the details, took a little time but it worlked out well. No filler was needed anywhere on this kit BTW.

The Mummy was washed in afrika korps dark brown wash from vallejo, then i used a brush to pick out details. The base also had both washes and dry burshing to get the effect i wanted, which was red sandstone pitted with sand to bring out the kit engravings.

The Cobra was orginally going to be Gold and black as per some pictures i saw of one on the net but since the mummy and his base were both in light earth tones I decided to go with a splash of color and make green with sinister red eyes.

I remember as a kid, strolling through the model aisles, and seeing this kit, along with the Wolfman and Count Dracula, and thinking I could never have this sitting in my bedroom at night.

I still can't.

But your entry is appreciated.  Yes

I agree on that, the Mummy really had excellent details. i love the stones with the markings in the base, adds a nice touch to the kit.

You should!

It was fun and it takes you back to the old days. It wasn't that hard to paint him either, just sprayed on base color, a wash and a little highlighting with a brush. the base actually took longer to paint then the mummy!

This was my first figure kit way back when.  I've been building figures ever since (50+ years...).  I hope this one gets you started down the same road, Chris!

I think you did an excellent job with this kit Chris. The detail on the figure and the sandstone columns is excellent. My only critique is maybe with the lighting for on some instances he looks glossy, not normal since he's in the desert. He reminds a bit of the Brendan Fraser version in which they find Imhotep and they all concur that he looks a bit 'juicy'. I figure probably that's what you wanted for this kit, although I still think the surrounding columns should have a more drier look to them, but all in all a great job.
