Apollo Astronaut

Astronaut is a Max Gruter design that I printed on my 3D printer, modified, cleaned up and painted.  Base came from a trophy shop.  The Moon surface is Bondo, and drywall chunks and fine grain, then painted.  The plaque was made using my Micro-Mark Photo Etch Kit.  I plan on redoing the face mask either with a refection of the moon, or gold paint.

Wow, now that is cool! Great work there on the astronaut and the plaque, flag, and overall presentation don't look half bad either. Yes

Goddamn! I wish I had a 3-D printer!!! The only thing I would've done is save the stuff from the back of his helmet for other scratch builds, and sand the helmet face with 600 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper to smooth it, then polish it a little so that I could spray with gloss black, then spray it again with alclad II to shine it. I'm sure that you could get away with spraying a light yellow tint over that to simulate the gold surface. They offer tints for special effects that you can mix with their clearcoat. Powerful is the artistry in which you've both designed, and painted this with! Colour me VERY impressed! You truly have what it takes to be a professional modeler in every respect from what I've just seen here in this thread. Thank you very much for sharing this with us!

BTW, did you ever finish the command module?

I was keenly following that thread and haven't seen it revived lately.

Sorry Greg.  Command Module?  Are you refering to the 1/72 Little Joe II I built?

Rob, not at all. My bad, actually.

I had a senior moment and actually meant your 1/12th Mercury Freedom 7. I had followed it from the start and managed to miss your couple of posts. What made me think it was an Apollo capsule in my feeble memory is beyond me.

I just added my 2 cents to that thread, albiet late.

I missed the Little Joe too. First class work as usual, Rob.
