2016 "Most Wanted Kits" Survey

It took a while but occasionally we get to see the figures included with armor kits that are reviewed - maybe somebody will read this thread and take pity on us .....

The point of the survey is for us to voice what kits we want to see offered for sale so leaving out catagories isn't right. I think at a minimum there should be a catch all catagory like "other" where people who want figures or, like me, construction equipment, can state it. I have no idea if anyone from FSM or a manufacturer is reading this comment and that's the problem with relying only on a forum - it may very well go unnoticed. You say that past surveys have had results so please FSM, step up and fix the survey so we all can have our say.

It would be nice if FSM were to add a figures catagory and then break it down into sub catagories by scale such as 1/48, 1/35, 1/16, Other. There are a more figures out there now than ever before, but some areas are  more "target rich" than others. And of course it would be the injection plastic as opposed to other mediums as all the rest of the kits in the survey forums are supposed to be...

I agree with the figures comments. I ended up putting my figure requests in Real Space, since I'd love to see a few sets of astronaut figures as well as some nice generic sci-fi astronaut figures. I've searched all over and can't seem to find any that fit the bill.

Here's another thought---

I wonder what the process is once the survey closes. Does FSM have someone compile this information into a neat little table or chart or something? And who gets that unenviable task? And how does it get into the hands of the kit makers?

...We have plenty of speciality forums (eg, PlanetFigure, Timelines, FigureMad, and on and on), and specific publications, for figures, that if FSM doesn't cover it, I'm not missing anything.

I prefer to spend more time at the workbench than on my computer, same goes for reading a hard copy of FSM over visiting modeling web sites (this post notwithstanding).  There are  forums for every type of model, but that doesn't keep the magazine from covering the Triple As.  I don't think it's asking too much that FSM include a Figures category, for all the same reasons - and possible benefits to us builders - as the other classes of models.

Thanks for the comments about figures or lack thereof in the survey. The problem we have is that figures is such a wideranging genre with so much minor variations between, for example, fallschirmjäger in 1942 vs fallschirmjäger in 1944 that it is difficult to get meaningful results. It is not by any means a slight against figure modelers. In fact, we recently started a regular feature about painting figures.

Dirk: The results are tabulated by hand by the staff. It's the only way to account for subtle differences in spelling and designations. The manufacturers see the results when you guys do — when the magazine comes out.

thanks for the clarification, there are still a ton of untapped figure and scales that manufacturers seem to ignore - more 1/24 and 1/25 scale figures to put with autos would be great, some more large scale (1/16 and 120mm) figures that cover a wider spectrum (not just the two world wars) and sci fi figures.  Your most wanted forum would allow for us lowly figure modeler to have a voice in the mix !

I would add that there are enormous variations within any model category.  There are kits of Triple A subjects appearing all the time in a variety of scales, with equally minute distinctions. With all due respect, I don't see the issue of variations in subject or scale being much of an argument against including a Figures category in FSM's survey.  Indeed, you only mentioned military figures - why not Sci-Fi/Fantasy subjects?  You'll find a a wide range of subjects from 1/4 to 1/13 scale and smaller there.
