Soccer Anyone?
Posted by Leddy on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 12:51 PM

I need to include a soccer ball in a 1/35 scale diorama.  What size of a ball would be in 1/35 scale? Can anyone suggest a supplier that I could buy a scale soccer ball? I  appreciate any suggestions or input!

Thanks, Leddy

The only 1/35th football's i am aware of are in figures sets. It might not be hard to make one, but depends on whether you wnat a modern one of one of the older type.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

 BIsh,
The figures would be children playing soccer in WW2 Berlin.  So the soccer/football would be an older style and that could be any form of soccer ball

Ok, well sort of being able to find a ball on its own, and i did a search and could find nothing, or being able to make one yourself, the otehr option could be this set of figures from master Box.

I know its a lot if you just want the ball, but there looks to be a child with a dog there, so you might be able to use that figure.

Shouldn't be too hard to form one out of modeling clay or some kind of putty, especially if it's suppose to be beat up/slightly deflated, it wouldn't have to be a perfect sphere. Can you find pictures of what a old style soccer ball should look like?

Todays regulation soccer ball has a diameter of around 8.65 inches (22cm). At 1/35 scale that woul be very close to 1/4" diameter. I dont think the size has changed much since the 40's?

Check out the site below and then go to Walmart/Hobby Lobby for a bag of loose 6mm beads. The old balls were brown leather (like an American basketball), not like the black-and-white checkered style.

For some reason I was thinking on my way home, I can make a soccer ball with Super Sculpey. SS is a compound that is very moldable and you bake it in the oven. It's cool stuff. It bakes into the consistency of hard plastic. It won't dry out at all in the box. So it took me 15 min of work and 15 minutes of baking. A few coats of wash and here's my soccer ball. I scored some lines in it to represent the panels but it's hard to see with a camera phone. If you took your time I bet you could make a real nice looking ball.

I might be a little bored Indifferent

Michaels has it. Amazon too. It's really versatile stuff. It's pretty soft and will pick up your fingerprints before it's baked so wearing gloves helps. I've baked it for half the instructed time and you can still manipulate it before baking all the way. It's great stuff because before you bake it you can do anything with it and start over if you screw up. It won't dry without baking. You can sand it down just like a hard plastic too
