Our cub scout pack has just recently did an overnight trip to Fort Mifflin, here in Philadelphia, complete with a "uniformed, living historian" and a 'Continental' breakfast (harharhar).  Anyhow, as a special thank you, I sent this guy with one of our other leaders (who works nearby the fort...) and donated him to the Fort to put on display.  He was very well recieved!

I recently purchased another continental Militia figure from the same company, Modelcellar.com,  a drummer boy, to build and donate to my son's school which is on the grounds of a battle during the War for Independence, which is actually being torn down to be replaced with a new, more modern school, large enough to accommodate the kids in our growing community.

How did you do the flag, is it a decal?

 

Actually, it is just an image, printed on regular printer paper (I doubled the single sided image, and reversed one of them, then butted them together), I folded the flag image in half, sandwiched a piece of aluminum foil in the middle,  then brushed white glue on the flag.  The aluminum foil allows you to shape the flag, and keep it shaped until the glue sets.  Then I added highlights and shadows to the wrinkles and sprayed it with satin clear.

I actually was watching some youtube videos and this technique came up for a tabletop gaming tips channel.

Looks great! You really caught the worn look of the uniform and defiant, determined look on his face. The base is awesome, the rough walnut really fits the theme. Well done!

Thank you! I appreciate the compliment!  this is actually my first 'real' attempt at figure painting.  I have painted figures before, but they were basically just accessories to the model in question, not the subject...

The base is a piece of live edge walnut, left over from a hall table I built, and made to represent early winter, 1775-1776, although Im not aiming for true historical accuracy . ..
