Gloves for US soldiers
Posted by RAF120 on Sunday, March 28, 2004 5:02 PM
What kind of gloves did the WWII US soldiers commonly wear? Were they leather, wool, or a combination of both? What color were they?

I'm back to working on my Audie Murphy M10 and I want to put gloves on Audie and I just realized I have no clue what they would look like, Any help would be great, thanks.

Hey there!

WWII US gloves came in a few different types. There was a leather palmed, wool glove that was normally issued to officers, but tended to find their way onto just about anyone's hands. There was a trigger-finger mitten which had the index finger and thumb separate from the other. These range in color from brown to near green. There are a few variations on leather gloves as well, but those two types were the main ones worn in the winter.

Hope that helps!

Jon, Thanks for the reply.
I think I'm going to go with the wool w/leather palms that seams the easiest to do. Just a matter of painting the hands.

Trevor,

Sounds good, and those are most likely what Murphy would have worn. The palms are a dark chocolate brown and the wool is OD. Here's a link to a pair on ebay right now for visual reference.

Hope that helps!
