 I think I have to agree with you . I bought the whole set in 1/25 . Beautiful Box , Enough parts for one female figure . They could've put a foursome in one box . Oh well . They do build up nice though .

well I have assembled all of the trumpeter Soviet winter infantry and started paint on one yesterday.

The face detail is just plain terrible there isn't any indication of eyeballs at all...

I love this kit..I have one in my stash. I would have gotten 2 but they only had the one in stock. Hope you enjoy them.

 

They are very nicely detailed... best of the batch for sure.

Amazon has this kit for really cheap right now, or at least they did.

Yeah most of those are pretty good figures. And the Tamiya ones are excellent practice figures as well as you can rob arms and other parts etc to customize the others.

Keavdog: Really nice work there!

Chuck: I think the reason for the large boxes is one of our clubmembers who used to work in a hobby shop had a big problem with people stealing expensive resin figures in small boxes. Then they'd drive to another hobby shop in a nearby town and tell them 'A friend bought this for me so I don't have the recipt. Can I still get a refund on it?'

Well, it's safe to say in comparison to the rest the Tamiya kit is the worst of the bunch.

The dragon kit is by far the best.

However, IMC I am extremely impressed with for the price, and their packaging is incredible.

Riich is also very good imo

And you nailed the Zvezda kit....slightly better than old Tamiya.

Masterbox is pretty nice as well, very nice accessories on the sprues I received.

All in all it was a total WIN!

Yeah, I think it's not possible to do a realistic paint job on a 1/25 figure.  1/35 would be much nicer.  The 1/25 figures came one in a box, for $12.95 each, which I think is a bit steep.  And that box is big enough to hold a dozen figures- strange packaging, but very attractive.

 

Yea I'd say at that size it is treading a very thin line...

 

At 1/35 the level of detail to look realistic is naturally much lower thus allowing for "realism" to be achieved

 

At 1/25 it has gotten big enough to notice the detail deficiency but not big enough to be injection molded with the necessary level of detail for "realism"

Imo, 1/35 is good and 1/12 and up is good for figures anyway, but it's all preference in the end.

 

I'm just hoping all these kits aren't junk.

 

I like mystery buying because you never know what gems you might find,  sometimes not any at all.

 

I bought up several kits that were at "ollies" which is like a wholesale store.

 

They had a TON of ancient lindberg kits which many are notorious for being terrible...still bought some because they were like $2 a piece...if just for diorama decoration it's a score...

 

They also had tons of AMT planes...like a meteor and a junkers...etc. never built a plane but I will now.

 

Really hope some of these figures turn out decent.

I've built some Master Box 1/25 pin-up girls for posing with car models.  The figures are OK (eh) but I think way too expensive.  What you get is a very nice glossy box with an artist's rendition of the figure on the front, which will only vaguely resemble the enclosed figure, which is a single small sprue with about a dozen parts that comprise the figure.  I think the box cost more than the figure.

 

I have the 1/35 pinups, I think there are 8 figures in that package or maybe 6? I'd have to look at it again. I saw one that somone else did and it looked really good!

The Tamiya figures are about 40 years old and will be disappointing. The rest are rather new, some will be better than others.
