Can anyone name this set? (from approx '90-'95)

Oh Gosh ;

 See how age can affect the old optical orbs ? I saw small figures , I didn't see much detail . I was going by the positions of some of the guys and the fellow with the paddles  .

 I had totally forgotten about that group of figures .

Yep, deffinetly that 1/72nd figure set, i still have some of the original Esci figures.

I have found that figure website really useful, some great info on tehre.

Here's a search trick, Smitiz.

I had no idea, but I like challenges and I happen to be sitting here while a document downloads.

At first they kind of looked like the old Airfix 1/72 Delrin figs, with those bases. But memory serves that those sets were on trees connected by the base only. But I was pretty sure they were 1/72 by level of detail.

Try google image search. In some ways it gets you there as fast as any other way.

I think GM is right, these look like 1/72 Italeri figures.

1/350 was mentioned, but they'd be much, much smaller.
