Yeah, that's fantastic! As Knox said the skin tones are terrific - great job!

Pawel,  this is too cool.  So much detail, and the skin tones are terrific.  I especially like the face. Nice work. Thanks for posting.

Hello everybody!

In the meantime my daughter motivated me to finish another one we've been working together on. It's an Orc Doctor from Wargame Exclusive on a Micro Art Studios base:

Thanks Pawel and Gamera. I am only playing so far and will do some more in the next few days. I agree with what you say Pawel about the stone and will do some work on this. Gamera, I only have my phone to take photos, but will see what I can do.

Cheers

Oh that's awesome!!! Love the demons, really like how you painted them. And the scroll on the tabletop looks cool too, would love to see a close-up!

Now... IKEA won't sell tables like this one...

I'd say do the stone plates lighter colour, it's going to look better!

Good luck with your build and thanks for sharing!

G'day mates. So I'm having a bit of fun here. When I looked closely at the item, it seemed as if the demon beasties were breaking out of the tomb. So I decided to paint them with some colour, rather than just go with the stone colour. This is way from being finished as I was just playing to get a sense of what might be achieved. so have a look at the photos and let me know what you think. Genuine observations and comments are welcome.

Hi Pawel, thanks for the info, I'll have to look for the Nuln Oil. As for pics, I want to do a little research first, because I want a bit of colour on the base as well. But I should have something to offer in a week or so.

Real G

Although I'm just a spectator, a good friend of mine builds WH40K figures, and I have to say the latest injected plastic kits from Games Workshop are phenomenal.  The engineering and fit are first class, and the pointy bits are surprisingly super-pointy!

They are definitely a FAR cry from the Vyper Jetbike I built many years ago:

That is a great job on the Viper.    I believe it’s from the Siam-Hann Craftworld.  I’ve been collecting and playing, (some), for too many years to count.  Covid restrictions have seen me get back into regular modeling more.  I will still keep a few armies, but I’m selling most of my collection.  Looks like Tamiya gets most of that money.
Dodgy,  that base looks awesome.  Really looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Roger that... Well Nuln Oil is the black wash made by Games Workshop, you know, Citadel paints. It's a nice stuff, water based and dries matt, very handy when painting stuff like that.

When do we see the first pictures?

Have a nice day!

G'day Pawel. I'm going to avoid all the virgin jokes, although I'm sorely tempted..... What is Nuln oil???

Yeah G, going for a stone look. I've never tried a marble, sounds a bit daunting.

Hello! Looks like a perfect place to sacrifice some virgin - but given the forum rules... yup, I guess it will have to be a dragon :-))

Lookin' forward to see your results!

My take on the stone would probably be to paint it white or off-white and give it some black wash/nuln oil - that takes care of most of the shading and gives a good stone like appearance on which you can improve after that.

Good luck with it and have a nice day

That looks cool Dodgy! I assume you're going with a grey stone look? I've tried a marble look on some things with a swirly colour effect but it never looks right to me.

Hey folks, here's an odd little item that I forgot I had. I picked it up approximately 20 years ago in a wargaming shop and this thread got me thinking about my old wargame figures and where they had got to. I was not into wargaming as such, but I loved some of the subject matter. In the next few days I will get it undercoated and start to paint it up. I want to put something on it, but can't decide if it's going to be a figure or a dragon, (I have several unpainted white metal dragons). If I can get the right mix, I can feel a diorama comming on.... Will keep you posted.

Hello!

Thank you very much for your kind words! They mean a lot to me!

Real G - you're right, guys at Games Workshop know how to injection mold plastic parts. Not only is that great engineering, but they also know how to make the kits cooler by adding options and modular design, essentially enabling you to buy the same kit several times to build it differently every time!

Like I wrote before those minis are not only nice way to spend time with my daughter, but they also let me practice some skills that can be put to good use on "serious" models.

Thanks again and have a nice day

Gamera

And Real G, looks cool to me!

Gamera,

The Vyper's pointy parts were DULL!  Surprise  I added extensions to the tips so they could be honed down into proper points.  The fit of some of the parts were dreadful too.  The modern GW kits have neither problem.  I watched a friend assemble a base for one of their kits that looked like a rocky surface that suffered a severe impact.  The parts looked like a 3-D jigsaw puzzle, and fit PERFECTLY.  No seam lines, no putty.  It looked like a one piece resin casting.  The current-gen GW kits are simply amazing.

To be fair though, the Vyper's figures were super sharp and well detailed.

WH40K is like Gundam, in that there is an expansive (and expensive!) world that many do not know exist.  Thanks to my WH40K friend, I am allowed a peek into this fascinating modeling world.  But as I mentioned, I'm just a spectator.  It's like going deep sea diving - it's really neat to go there, but I can't stay long because I'll get, you know, like the bends.  Stick out tongue

“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”

Those look awesome Pawel!!! Sorry somehow missed the Gretchins...

Great detail work on all of them! I used to love to paint minis but my eyesight has changed on getting older and I just can't focus even with an Optiviser like I used to.

Work and life have taken their toll on this old fart lately, so I haven’t checked in much.  I’m loving your figures, and your paint job on them. Very nice!

I agree about Micro-Art stuff. I would like to get some bases for my Malifaux figures from them.  Thanks again for postIng.  I do enjoy your work.

And another one.. This is a fig by an Ukrainian company called "Wargame Exclusive", they make really good stuff, and this one is officially called "Imperial Wing of Death Angel Terminator Commander". My daughter called him "Froderick"... No use asking why :-)

I used a base from a Polish company called Micro Art Studios - they have a very good stuff, too - because the fig comes without a base.

OK, here are the pics:
