Weird-ohs Digger The Way Out Dragster

Here's a fun build I started. Our local IPMS club has a MONSTER theme'd night coming up in the Fall. I've had this on my shelf for 20 years now! Time to get creative. I'm thinking of doing a combination RatRod and WWII fighter theme.

This thing takes alot to clean up. The plastic is almost like what I see for vacu-form mold. Ejection pin marks all over it. And you'd think the base would have the pin marks on the back...BUT NO they are all over the top face. Geeez it's going to take more cleanup and bondo!

Here I've started with the Yellow Zinc Chromate for body color(literally lol). I've also done his hands and the frame of the RatRod as well. I've never tried chipping before so for this I'm going to try something new and get out my Vallejo Rust & Chipping book to see what I can do.

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

Never owned or built that one, but I sure as heck remember it.

Cool! Thanks for sharing. I look forward to watching you finish.

Ha!  That sounds like fun.  Sure cleaned up nice so far.  That's a big model.  What's the scale (if there is one lol).  I did a lot of Tom Daniel kits in the past and it's fun to build something crazy like that.  I like the zinc chromate face.

Thanks,

John

Looking good! If Second World War schemes are hard to come up with, WWI schemes like the Red Baron might work.

Thanks Pat :-)  In terms of scale it's a classic..."Box Scale" lol   It's about 8" long and stands about 6" tall. On the order of a large 1/24 sale car model I guess, now that I try to lay out the dimensions of it.

Digger is all finished. Wow I'm really happy with how this turned out. The Big Red One is coming ashore! This rust method is going to take some more work. Each time I do it the colors seem to show up better. The biggest struggle has been getting the orange filter to show up. It really seems to build up slowly. I'm only assuming that since other lessons on filters say it take multiple coats. The Vallejo book doesn't really cover that though. Here are some pics I took with a clean background. Definitely going in the display case tonight Stick out tongue
