Here's a fun build I started. Our local IPMS club has a MONSTER theme'd night coming up in the Fall. I've had this on my shelf for 20 years now! Time to get creative. I'm thinking of doing a combination RatRod and WWII fighter theme.
This thing takes alot to clean up. The plastic is almost like what I see for vacu-form mold. Ejection pin marks all over it. And you'd think the base would have the pin marks on the back...BUT NO they are all over the top face. Geeez it's going to take more cleanup and bondo!
Here I've started with the Yellow Zinc Chromate for body color(literally lol). I've also done his hands and the frame of the RatRod as well. I've never tried chipping before so for this I'm going to try something new and get out my Vallejo Rust & Chipping book to see what I can do.
In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!
Hmmmmm......WWII fighter----I see a gull wing whale tail somewhere in the deal.
Maybe on the front to keep the nose down.
Never owned or built that one, but I sure as heck remember it.
Cool! Thanks for sharing. I look forward to watching you finish.
Ha! That sounds like fun. Sure cleaned up nice so far. That's a big model. What's the scale (if there is one lol). I did a lot of Tom Daniel kits in the past and it's fun to build something crazy like that. I like the zinc chromate face.
Thanks,
John

lol ”Box scale” i spent the last week just thinking of a paint scheme. That just makes it all the more fun. Would love to see a few you’ve done KD
Significant progress this week for sure. Here I've got Digger and his Dragster all done. I'm still looking for some fishnet stockings that I can use to cover the helmet with. I think that would complete the look.
I chose the Big Red 1 for the design and sketched this in by hand. I tried to duplicate the look of the stiched fabric with vertical bars. All the dents in the helmet and body I did by softening the plastic over a tea lite candle and then pressing in with a blunt object. I tried for a little road radsh on the helmet as well. I also tried to get some rust built up in the intake valleys. With a little paint chipping I think it turned out neat. Everything is Vallejo paint except the yellow zinc chromate primer, that is MCW lacquer as that's the only form I had this in :-) Next up is the base. I have to put it on something stiff and sand the heck out of it. Sooo, it will be awhile before I get it all set. Traveling for work this week so I'll be back in a couple weeks with the whole thing complete. Hope you enjoy this commical build

Lookin good. Thanks for the update.
I like it. It is a fun build and nicely executed. Thanks for sharing your project.
Thanks guys! It’s been an awesome bunch of fun so far enjoying the space coast this week so no modeling. Over to Kennedy Space Center before i come home. Will be psyched to get back on it by the weekend.
Great looking build! What scale size is it please? I looks really big!
Remember , common sense is not common.
PatW Great looking build! What scale size is it please? I looks really big!
Thanks Pat :-) In terms of scale it's a classic..."Box Scale" lol It's about 8" long and stands about 6" tall. On the order of a large 1/24 sale car model I guess, now that I try to lay out the dimensions of it.
Awesome. So fun.
Digger is all finished. Wow I'm really happy with how this turned out. The Big Red One is coming ashore! This rust method is going to take some more work. Each time I do it the colors seem to show up better. The biggest struggle has been getting the orange filter to show up. It really seems to build up slowly. I'm only assuming that since other lessons on filters say it take multiple coats. The Vallejo book doesn't really cover that though. Here are some pics I took with a clean background. Definitely going in the display case tonight
Nailed it.
