Plumes for the old Aurora Knights

You'd think so, wouldn't you? But the typical boa has feathers that are not fluffy at the ends. They have flat tips. Just won't do, brother. Just won't do.

PS - Currently working on some killer 1/72 Napoleonic figure conversions. I will attempt, for the first (and no doubt only) time, to build a basket hilt for a saber out of brass wire. Unit of 12 plus a casualty or two. Horse blankets made of paper - AutoCAD can do better details than a paint brush. I'll send photos when ready. Where should I send those?

This particular question has me wondering how it would look to sculpt a plume out of putty, too.

Widowson, You misread the page at Crazy Crow. That's $3.95 per ounce of 2-3" plumes. You get 350-400 feathers per ounce. I called them to confirm that. You'd have enough feathers in all the colors you need to field an entire army of knights for less than $20. In fact, you could probably buy one ounce of white feathers and stain them the colors you want and have all you need for $4.00. Barrett

I checked out Crazy Crow, and their prices are CRAZY. Like almost four bucks for a single 2" feather. Do you have any other sources?

Also check with Crazy Crow Trading Post online for a wider variety of Native American Fluff Feathers, and other small scale feathers that will be suitable.

You should be able to find them at any of the craft store chains, too:  Michael's, AC Moore, and HobbyLobby.

There'a a whole Aurora Knight Model culture online apparently. You are in good company on this question.

As far as the original feathers, well, there are "sealed" kits available online for $ X00's.

And, the built-up ones I could find photos of; the feather looks like something Liz Taylor would wear on her feet with a nighty.

You might consider doing whatever you think looks good. I'm sure it'll be great looking.
