1/20th scale Hammerhead Shark model
Posted by sharknuts on Saturday, November 9, 2019 9:20 PM

Hi to all

I just recently built this 1/20th scale Hammerhead Shark model, produced by Fade to Black model kit. This model is 6 inches long, and was difficult for me to airbrush, because of it's small size!

It didn't say on the box what species of Hammerhead Shark this was, however I can see by the shape of the head that this is a Great Hammerhead Shark!

By the way, if anybody out there is wondering how good is the Harbor Frieght deluxe airbrush kit, that goes for $20.00 dollars, well here's what I achieved with that airbrush!  sharknuts

Hello!

We don't have too many modellers around here building scale models of fish... Now I had to write you something, otherwise it would be a pity to see such a nice build without any comments. Now the hammerhead itself looks like a spaceship! - was my first thought. I like your painting of it, too. Thanks for sharing and keep those fishies comin'!

All comments and critique welcomed. Thanks for your honest opinions!

I like it too!  So does the guy sell these kits?  I Googled but came up empty for a website.

Great paint job you captured the skin tones perfectly its nice to see something really different. This Hammered would look great in an acrylic pour, have it lurking under some sailors that have abandoned a sunk battle ship.

What a great job! I really love the look of this model. Reminds me of an old movie called “ Islands in the Stream”.

I’m not a movie buff, as all I can come up with is a song by Dolly Parton! Surprise

Thank you Sharknuts!  Is the model resin cast or 3-D printed?  How much cleanup did you need to do?  Your finish looks impeccable.

As far as I know, it is 3D printed, and no flash is present on this model, therfore the only cleanup I had was the seams where I glued the fins and mouth on.

By the way, all the parts was such a good fit, that I did not have to use any putty, just cyanoacrylate glue to fill in gaps if needed.

Hi!

What a pretty predator fish!. Hammerheads are very unique! Especially the Scalloped Hammerhead . Ya know! I wish they would do other Fish. Like say the Whale Shark or maybe some smaller Reef Fishes.

Imagine the awesome blast of colors you could have !T.B.

Sharknuts,

I emailed Ed Angeletti and he was super prompt in responding!  I have a hammerhead kit heading my my way.  Can't wait to have a look at it.  I'll definitely be using your build as reference and inspiration!

Ed doesn't really have an internet presence on the Google, which is a shame since he offers some interesting kits.  I told him I'll have to pass on the Orca because at 24" long it is bigger than a 1/350 SSBN!  The 36" long Megalodon even more so!  Stick out tongue  But want to get the Archelon kit (a giant prehistoric sea turtle), and Ed mentioned a Manta Ray is under development!

Real G. Next time you communicate with him, would you ask him if he does a " Scalloped" Hammerhead, Please ? T.B.

I recieved the kit today, and wow I’m impressed!  The skin has unbelievably fine details sculpted in them.

Thanks Sharknuts for showing us your wonderful build up and providing the source of the kit!

I was so impressed that I am going to order another one - this one will become a Christmas present for a friend who has a penchant for quality exotic kits.

But first I am going to take photos of the parts and marvel at them!

Edit:  Close scruitiny of the parts tells me the master might have been SLA printed, then the kit was made by casting resin copies.  The casting looks first rate and I think the only parting line is along the belly, but appears to have been cleaned up.  No 3-D printing striations are in evidence.

By the way, did you order the 1/20th scale, or the 1/10 scale Hammerhead Shark model?

I ordered the 1/20 kit.  6” is plenty.  Ed mentioned the Archelon turtle is 8” long, so it wil be pretty big since the shell displaces more volume.

I failed to take photos of the first kit before it got gift wrapped, and I finally ordered a second kit plus the Archelon prehistoric turtle, so photos of the raw kits are forthcoming!
