I'm getting close to putting some color on her.

I reprimed her yesterday.

I'm thinking of flat white/blue for the skin, white for the hair, smoke for her legs and gloss black for the boots.

As of now she will be in a red uniform, probably an Enterprise chest badge.

I'll do the antena last as they are a break hazard.

Looks perfect to me, the uniform looks very smooth and even now.

Thanks!

I think I'm happy with her. I'll revist her in a few days, I'm back at work.

I picked up a few TOS Burke chairs from Shapeways.

The far right one is listed as 1/12. Way too big. The other 2 are listed as 1/18.

The middle one looks about right for her. I'm not really planning a diorama for her,

just something to pose her with.

She and the chairs look good!

Always nice to get the base colours in so you can see how things are going to go.

Something for reference.  Will you go with the antenna above the ears or from the forehead?

I've seen her on the web, great referance. And easy on the eyes!

This is what I'm going for.

Most Andorians are too blue now, on TOS they were white with blue tint and purple highlights.

The antenna are slightly forward of hers, but behind the ears.

Good call Mach71. I really love what they did with them in Enterprise but the moving the antenni from the back to the front of the head confuses me. Guess it made the hardware to move them fit better.

At least they didn't end up like the Klingons. What are there now - I think six different types of makeup used them!?!?

1). TOS Klingons

1b). Kras from 'Friday's Child' - makeup a little different. Not enough to make a whole   new category though.

2). ST:TMP: First bumpy-head type

3). ST:TSFS though Enterprise: More stream-lined smooth bumpy-head look.

4). Abrams movies: Parall universe, not sure they count.

5). Discovery: Make-up really changed around.

Will you eventually hit her with a matte medium (eg, DullCote) or will you leave her tunic glossy?

Have you ever used matte acrylics like Andrea, or Vallejo Model Color, Lifecolor, craft store acrylics, or others?  I ask because when I started out painting my metal soldiers, in a classic gloss toy soldier style, I used mostly Testor's enamels, some Model Master, and some Tamiya gloss acrylics.  I found with time that even when thinned, gloss paints tended to obscure finer details.  That led me to use matte acrylics more, and always thinned, to preserve sculpted details.  The glossy finish made me think of that.

Best regards,

Brad

Yup, they keep changing things!

I liked the Andorians in Enterprise, but they were too blue and I don't like the fact that they moved the antenna.

She will get smoke "nylons" on her legs and probably a thin white wash on her face/hands.

Thanks Brad!

I have never used those paints. I'm kind of a creature of habit with my MM/True North enamel and Tamiya acrylics. It might be time to try something new, but she has gloss Tamiya on her uniform. I'll put her rank/patch on then dull coat her.

At least thats the plan as of now.

To be honest I find matte paints to be easier to work with on figures. But whatever works for you- you're doing a great job on her!

I've been watching the build from the sidelines and it's amazing to see the transformation.  That's fantastic work.  Looking forwad to seeing the rest of the process!

Sorry guys.

I'm kind of stuck on her stockings. I can't get them to look good. I've tried many thing so far. I'm almost ready to strip her down and star again.

Another problem is time. Too much stuff getting in the way.

What technique are you using?  Airbrushing a thin layer of the color, for example?

I ask because I have two projects going, where I am stopped at that step-painting stockings.  I'm going to airbrush them, but I've never done it before.  I'm practicing with a piece of styrene card, painted with my flesh color, till I get comfortable with the technique.

Well I've tried Spraying on clear Tamiya smoke. That didn't work at all, It was very uneven and looked bad.

I stripped it off, repainted her legs blue, then tried hand painting a mix of clear acrylic and flat black. I didn't like the coverage. Where I am now is a series of light washes, acrylic, oil, the enamel. It's acceptable, but no more. I'm hoping when I flat clear her it will help blending.

I painted her boots satin black, and started to touch up her dress.

I'll buff/light sand her dress and re spray.

I've also started to think about her antenna.

Thats where I am now

Her tights give her a little bit of a punk look. Big Smile

Once I get my experiment with airbrushing completed, I'll post a thread with the figure.  I'm sure it can be done, if for no other reason that others have successfully done it.  I...figure (pun intended) it'll take a lot of tries for me to get the hang of it, too.

I think your idea of misting on with an airbrush is probably the best solution.

As I've said, I'm very close to striping her and starting over. The only reason I havent is

my own pig headedness.

Nice work on the face and uniform. No idea on how to do the stockings. I would have done them as your started out as a mix of clear and black.

Good luck- very cool project and I'm hoping things turn out for the best.

She is soaking in some turpentine now.

I'll check in after about 24 hours.

It's funny I don't mind doing stuff no matter how complex or hard but I really really really hate having to start over and redo stuff again...
