                        I started on IBG Models 1:35 Scammell pioneer SV2S heavy breakdown tractor a while ago. I love the look these large heavy trucks, I’ve only ever built a small scale Field Gun Quad way back when. On opening the box and starting to build I realised what a lovely kit it is, and I was moved to buy some AM. To do it justice it also needs to be set in a small diorama another first after all these years. My inspiration comes from posts Bish put up of his excellent models and he would often set them in a diorama giving the viewer an idea of scale next to a figure. Now figures; to be avoided unless really small and hidden behind a canopy. So I decided to bite the bullet and plunge in, build comes to a stop, I was busy this year anyway and late evenings gave me the opportunity to spend a little time on You tube. A little of the mystery taken away with excellent tutorials I tried to have a go. For years I have kept two figures in a spares box belonging to a SAS Jeep, time to get them out. Watching is easy doing is a different kettle of fish, skin tone; this takes practice so I’ve bought some small figures to learn how to apply small amounts of paint to a very small area. It may be helpful to some to see my errors and pit falls and for me to receive any tips.

                        Thought I needed more muscle tone to practice on .

                        I had fun with the creature she is riding more relaxed. I tried out high lights but I think i'm a little heavy handed.

                               So I got myself sommething a little smaller to hopefully apply paint lightly. I'm going to finish this figure then go back to the first three.

                        Keep at it mate, I reckon they're looking good. Figure painting is all about layers and blending and I think that you have started down the right path by using practice figures and watching YouTube tutorials. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

                        1961- it's just a matter of fiddling with the thing till you get something you're (mostly) happy with. I've been painting them thirty years and think I do okay but still not totally thrilled with the way mine turn out. 

                        You've got a great start going there. The pewter Reaper figures are great. If you really don't like how they come out, since they're metal you can just dunk them in thinner, strip the paint and start over.

                        Thanks Gamera, these are great fun but the fact hasn't passed me by; there is no human skin to be seen could be accused of going a little of track. Wink

                        Lol, yeah it's fun to paint something a little different like a the green scaley skin of a lizardman. 

                        I can sorta do skin, I just hate eyes- I wish every figure were wearing dark sunglasses... Cool
