I'd guess the hair is molded that way due to to the difficulty of undercuts in the mold if it were all molded in one piece. 

Did something go wrong with the video at about the five minute mark? The audio cuts out and then you seem to restart and then end.

Thats called an edit is supposed to be there but between the time you record and the time you edit you forget about it.
