I'm building the '32 Ford Coupe from the ZZ Top Eliminator days and I want to include a couple of figures of the band members in the display. How can I construct a beard, a ZZ Top beard?

In that scale, epoxy putty or something like Sculpey would seem to be the way to go. Add detail with a stiff brush and/or needles.

I once saw really impressive figure beards done with rayon fibers teased from a fine-stranded poly cord...but that was on 'GI Joe' sized figures. In 1/32, the effect would probably be lost -- and you'd be asking for a nervous breakdown. Big Smile

You might look here for inspiration....

You could try and poke around a bit for Civil War figures maybe?  40mm stuff

Thanks,

Apoxie sculpt would be my go to material for something like that.

I second Greg and Rob.  Apoxie Sculpt, or any other 2-part epoxy, is the best bet.

Am I correct that that kit is in 1/24 scale?  It's a relatively simple conversion to add a beard to a figure in that scale.

Those figures look awesome.
