Bicycle 1/48 Scale WW II Airfield Transportation
Posted by RedTai on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 2:03 AM

I`m planing 2 diromas of a WW II US airfields. One in the MTO & the other in the ETO. It was common pratice for enlisted & somtimes lower rankig offices to get around base on bicycles. And, with 1/48 scale being a popular scale for aircraft modelers I am wondering if anyone kitted or cast a era correct bike.. since it was such a common means of transportatioin American Airfields.

Oh this is an easy one. Both Tamiya and Masterbox have several figure sets with proper era bicycles. There are also a dozen or so resin ones made but they cost quite a bit more. Doesn't matter what country they are from really since a bike is a bike in that scale. Just Google 1/35 bicycle and go shopping for the one you like.

EDIT! I can't read. 1/48 is NOT 1/35 and those would be some very large bikes. Search shows there are indeed some 1/48 ones out there but they ain't cheap!

Never heard of them before but boy could I spend a pile of money now that I know! Looks like some really nice stuff at very reasonable prices.

OUTSTANDING..many thanks for the lead on where I could aquire a 1/48 bicycle!!! Not sure if my photo etched assembly skills are that well honed...yet. I`m more skilled with styrene & resin kits. However, I`ll give it a  go..you never know what you can do if you don`t try! Any tips or tricks on photetched kit assembly would be truly welcomed. Thanks

There are 3 male & one ladies bike in the DJ Parkins set.

They can be built without soldering, as they are brass rod, white metal tyres, and etched nickel silver frames.

NB the spokes are etched as well.

I've yet to get the nerve up to build one!

I got holdof my Father's Air Corp records and found out that while in England he went into gravel on the side of the road on his base trying to avoid a staff car and broke his leg.  I'm not sure how it went over at the time, he was in the OSS and probably missed a mission or two.
