Hi TreadHead88,

Your figure looks fine, I think taken out of context of a trench or a ruin searching for the enemy is sort of throwing everyone off a little. Nothing beats a nice sharp E Tool for close in work and being able to put a little distance between the holder and what ever he wants to move, open or what have you. The five 'o'clock shadow you have given him is excellent. When he is placed in a scene you can use the colors of the dust and debris to give him that grubby in combat look.

Oil paints are excellent for figure work. Micheal's or Aaron Brothers Art Mart, large artist's stores where they have a large selection of stuff should be your goal to getting a good deal on them. I scored a 24 color set of oil paints for $7.99 and a quart can of synthetic turpentine for $4. That is all it takes to set you up for oil painting, that and some practice. Turpentine doesn't really affect enamel or acrylics when it is used to do washes and drybrushing. That means all the work you have done to now won't be affected by the oils. If you make an error or want to change something, it is a fresh brush load of turpentine away. After some experimenting you will find that it does do an excellent job of shading, brightening, altering, and in general turning your figures into ones that you look at and think," I did that! Cool"

You can look at my website and see a couple of the ones I have done in 1/16 scale here:

I just got into doing the bigger scale stuff and it is proving to be an eyeopener in learning new ways to deal with the small scale ones as well. I can't wait to see more of your 6 pack.

He looks great. Have you ever tried using artists oils? A very small amount can be blended into the existing colour, and can add a lot of depth to the shading and highlights. Just a thought, and keep up the good work.

well first off, i wanted the impression that hed been in the field for a while, so i gave him whisker growth i guess youd say, I still have to dirty up the uinform a bit and the shovel has dried blood on it, but with how dark the pictures are you can not see it, which i am really sorry for, maybe i will try again if i get a better light sorce, maybe i should have used a lighter red on the shovel also... afterall the shovel works better than a knife in hand to hand combat

The pipctures are stil on the dark side.
The figure looks pretty good. Couple technical points.
I don't know that an officer would have a uniform tht looked that clean and have that much beard growth.
Also, an officer would have assigned an enlisted man to do any digging.
So, I'm suggesting you think out the plot of your dio/vignette before you over commit to it.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I have nearly completed this, about 90% done and before i add the dust, flat coat and wash is there anything to improve on, i do realize the belt needs alittle work and the boots arent very good but those are easy fixes. this is my first figure in almost 11 months, let me know how i did over all. I am quite happy with the results myself Approve [^]

front view of the officer, with a walther pistol and one of the latter troops shovels.

it might be hard to see but i added dryed blood to the bottom of the shovel as a hint to why an officer is carrying it.

the back of the officer, i am thinking of highlighting the hair with a dry brush of grey.

all comments and suggestions are welcome, thanks guys. Big Smile [:D]
