Flesh mix for people of colour
Posted by chris hall on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 2:11 PM
I've just bought a set of 4 * 1/7 scale England soccer players, issued earlier this year by Airfix. My problem is that two of these players are people of colour, and, having last done a person of colour in 1998, when I built the Tamiya 1/35 Pibber, I've fogotten how to do 'black' flesh. My preferred media for flesh are:

oils
Citadel/ Warhammer acrylics
Humbrol enamels

in that order.

Any ideas, people?

Chris.

As you know, the range of color varies from caucasian white to ebony.
What I did a couple years ago was to use a base of burnt sienna. The shadows were van dyke brown and the highlights were a patina of raw sienna. This was gladiator in full helmet so I did not have to work on facial highlights.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Thanks, ajlafleche and boybuddho! that's just the sort of stuff I was looking for, and gives me some ideas to work with. The figures I'm painting are 1/7 scale, not 25mm, but the basic principles would seem to be the same. Just a question of adding more contrast and detail, and practice, practice, practice (so what's new?Big Smile [:D])
