Excellent work! I really like the job you did on his face, it really adds to the character of the figure. Is this a 54 mm figure? He would look good standing beside some of the civil war naval cannon I've seen from Verlinden.

Excellent work on this figure. I particularly like the shading on the pants (white is really tough to do right and you nailed it!) and the highlights on the hands and frock coat.
You might try scanning a copy of the Belgian Knot on the sleeve and printing in on decal or even plain white paper to get a more effective representation. Those were very elaborate and the number of corde reflected rank.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Here is a pic of a 54mm confederate navy officer I just finished. Originaly he was a union officer but I'm making this for my dad and he's an old Navy Man from North Carolina..... The Confederate uniforms at the begining of the war were no diferent from the Union uniforms. It wasn't till later that there was a difference and much of it was custom made for the officers. Seems that despipte the regs handed down they still mixed and matched to their liking with only shoulder boards and markings fitting regs. Despite uniform colors, the cut and style were very similar.

When finished the whole project will include a confederate sailor as well as a 15" Rodman gun and carriage.

Painted using vallejo acrylics.
