First time painting a face smaller that 1/1.

This is the 1/35 engineer included with Dragon's Goliath. The uniform still needs cleaning, the fuzz is a leftover from Q-tipping it down with iso prior to painting. I airbrushed the base coats, I don't think I'll do that again. I considered these throw-aways since there are two sets with the kit, so they're experimental.
Let me have the tough critique here please, I need to know how this plays, whether it's too subtle or not.

A touch more shadow and highlight and probably some 5 oclock shadaw doesnt look to bad though. I like the dragon figures kits but the faces are all too generic and emotionless like Tamiyas but the bodies and thier selection are a dream come true. Another thing that I like is that the heads are molded seperately so you can paint them seperate and put them on after all the paintings done. I scored a ton of resin figures at a model show a couple of weeks ago some for only a dollar a bag and hit the jackpot when I found a few Brits that will work great with the commonwealth GB later on. A bunch of these were just heads both Brits and Germans and my wife couldnt beleive I bought just heads (women just dont understand).

I agree with cplchilly. You did an excellent job with the figures features, but a 5 o'clock shadow would definitely put it over the top. May I suggest that you keep airbrushing the base coat. I do it with my figures, I also airbrush the grey tones from underneath. You get a lot smoother base when you airbrush. Check out some of my figures in my dios, The Last German King and Waiting to Exhale.

Thanks guys. I hear what you're saying about the five o'clock, but my reasons for not doing it are:
1. Some of these guys were pretty young. I'm Swedish, 39 and I never have a five o'clock shadow so I'm suspecting a lot of these guys wouldn't either.
2. It's so bleedin' small that I didn't have alot of space for the effect I was trying to achieve, I would think a beard would come across too dark.

Love the dios by the way TigerII, beautiful stuff.

Actually when it comes to hair I'm the missing link between man and ape.

Looks pretty good as it is.
I'm with the guys who are advising against 5 o'clock shadow. As mentioned many soldiers were young guys and you have Aryans here, generally more fair haired than if you were modeling Mediteranean complexions. By the time you can see beard growth at that scale you have several days happening and you'd also have to blend a dirtied uniform to match.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
