Thanks for the reply, he will be inside the tank but visible through the hatches. The clothing is just a regular boiler suit with some folds and will not need that much detail as he will be sat in the drivers seat which has a back and sides so this will hide a lot of the surgery.

If he's mostly hidden away inside the tank, you may be able to get away with just the upper part of the kit. The model companies have done this for ages.
The surgery from standing to sitting is going to be a much bigger problem. You'll have to extensive reworking in the hips as well as the knees. You'd almost be better off resculpting the upper leg from the hips to the knees. If the suit is at all baggy, you're going to need to adjust for the difference in the effect of gravity on the drape of the cloth and the effects of his weight being borne by the backs of his legs.
Heating and bending plastic will not result in an acceptable bend. Better to do full wedge cuts and reattach.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Re-posing a 1/16 figure from standing to sitting - is it possible?

I have just got a Tamiya 1/16 tank crew figure to go with the 1/16 T-34 GB on the armour forum. However, the figure is standing and I need him to be sitting in the drivers seat. Although not a russian fig, it is a man in a boiler suit that will suffice for my first attempt.
I would like to know if I can remodel it to a sitting position, where to cut at the hips and knees etc. I will be using milliput to fill any resulting gaps and this can be shaped to follow the body contours.
The kit comprises of the upper body, legs and head, each in 2 parts. The feet are separate.
My first thoughts were to cut out a wedge behind the knees and heat the plastic to bend the leg. The hips are a problem as it is moulded standing, so I think that I will need to cut off the legs from the crotch up to the waistline on each side, re-attach and fill in the gaps.
Sorry if this sounds like surgery, but any help will be appreciated.
