How to prepare a metal figure
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 6, 2005 1:55 PM
I have finished assembling and puttying my first metal figure, how do you prepare it or clean it before primer??

Thanks for the advice.

Should oxide be a concern after washing the figure? if so how do you prevent it?

Thanks

I've had metal figures for over 20 years with no oxidation. Most of those weren't even primed, just paint right on the metal. Today, I prime, usually with an airbrushed coat of white, grey or light tan. I have enough problems losing small parts, I don't wash them.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I generally don't wash, but warm soapy water will suffice. I've never had white metal figures oxidize, so I don't think you should be concerned. When the build is finished, I just spray a layer of white or flat black paint as a primer coat, and get to painting.
