Neo,

Not much at that point. The some Rangers were issued assault vests for the invasion, but then again, so were guys in both the 1st ID and 29th ID. About all that was unique about them then was their training.

By the way, what were the differences between the ranger and normal infantry uniforms? Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much. I'll have to order those DML sets. By the way, what FS colors correspond to the shirt, pants, and leggings? Thank you again.

Neo,

The DML figures there are ideal for what you're thinking of doing. Also, the DML 2nd Rangers figures (may be out of production) are perfect for D Day as well. The Tamiya figs you've got posted there are older and not very accurate lumps of plastic that somewhat resemble WWII infantrymen. They came out with a better set a few years ago, but those are somewhat underscale.

The basic D Day uniform consisted of the M-41 field jacket, M-37 wool field pants and wool shirt. Boots were low-quarters with M-1938 leggings worn over them. That's the basic issue. Web gear varied a bit, but was basically an M-1923 cartridge belt or M-1936 pistol belt. Attached to that could either be M-1936 combat suspenders and an M-1936 musette bag or an M-1928 haversack, which had its own integral suspenders.

If you've got any specific uniform or gear questions, drop me a line.

D-Day Uniform Conversion
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 31, 2005 7:17 PM
Okay, what would I need to do to convert Tamiya's 1/35 U.S. Infantry West European theater figures to D-Day uniforms? I got a diorama idea in mind, but I want to know if I should order the 29th infantry by Dragon instead. Many thanks.
