Aurora and Polar Lights Kits
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 6:33 PM
Hi!

I'm having trouble finding reissues of the old figure kits made by Aurora and Polar Lights. My local hobbyshop stopped carrying them, but I hoped you guys could help.

Any info is much appreciated.

Right now, there are 262 Aurora models listed on E-bay and anthor 480 Polar Lights listings. Other than, chancing swap meets, yard sales, flea markets and shows/contests with a good selection of vendors, that may be your only resource. I know of a guy who used to have a huge selectiono of Aurura kits. I don't know if he's still around. I haven't seen him at a show in a couple years. I'll ask around and see if he's still in business.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Sharpspade,

The problem here is that Polar Lights was sold recently and I have no idea what has happened to their kits, or whether they will be seen again, which is rather sad. I grew up just a little too late for the Aurora releases, so I was ecstatic when the monster kits started to show up again several years ago through Monogram. Eventually, a new company named Polar Lights started rereleasing some of the kits and over time had most, if not all of the old Aurora molds, making these kits available for new generations. As the company headquarters was in South Bend, Indiana, about twenty miles away from me, I was disheartened to learn of their sale. I fear that it may be another generation before the kits are made available again, but that will remain to be seen. Good luck in your search.
