Mike, where'd you get that dragon? It's awesome ^__^ (Been meaning to get into minis, and I love dragons, too... )

ajlafleche: Yeah, I kinda think white looks right to me... We'll see, since I have a few more kits in that set, too... Maybe offwhite works, too (Do they make a paint for it? )

A mate of mine gave it to me mint and unopened where it languished with my Battlemech Mini's. I gave the packet to my wife who loves painting fantasy mini's (Dragons are her specialty - check out the seperate post in this forum) and the result is what you see. The Ral Partha range is long OOP.

Mike

Actually, Ral Partha's entire line (except for the old Advanced Dungeons & Dragons figures, the masters of which have been destroyed) are available from Iron Wind Miniatures. http://ironwindmetals.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=5_12

Ral Partha's dragons are cool, but I prefer the work of Sandra Garrity at Reaper:

Hope this helps...

I picked up an interesting baby t-rex at a ceramic shop a couple years ago ... still have it somewhere I think. It's a white bisque ceramic with the little dickens hatching out of his gnarly egg. Would that qualify as a figure or is it lumped in with arts and crafts more than scale modeling? It's pretty realistic even though I never painted it.

Good job, Akuma. Go with what you feel is the right color combination. No one really knows what the coloration of these creatures was for sure; enjoy yourself and let your imagination take over :)

The pics do not do it justice. I watched this mini evolve to what you see and it now sits proudly on display in the lounge room.

For an off white, use bleached bone by Citadel. Vallejo makes a similar colour in both the gamecolour and normal ranges.

cheers

An off white can be created simply by mixing the tiniest bit of another light color into white. For a dinosaur's teeth, perhaps mixing in a tiny bit of flat sand or a flat light tan would work.

No one knows the color of the claws, since the process of being petrified relaceces the original organic material with rock like material. As Mike mentions and the picture of the turtle claw shows, claws tend to be dark in color. That said, if \your artist's eye feels the claws should be white, you can paint them white and not have to justify yourself. Every image of a dynosaur is an artist's rendition of what they think the creatures looked like. Smile [:)]

Most animals claws tend to be black, though our cat has white claws (clean them a lot as cats do) but our loopy mutt (german shep/blue heeler/kelpie) has black claws....

My wife Lori (mrs madmike) paints miniatures and specialises in Dragons. She paints the claws black.

her latest work "Magic of the Orb"

cheers

How so?

Maybe all black would not be the best after all.

Hey Akuma!

I haven't seen one of your posts for a while. (Which doesn't mean you haven't been posting, just that I haven't seen them. Smile [:)]).

I think your baby T-rex looks pretty good. I agree with the comments above that the teeth and claws could be a little darker (radome tan, maybe?), but I think the stripes and the eyes look great.

If you're looking for some great color schemes for your big T-rex, check out the book, Dinosaurs by Dougal Dixon. I picked it up for $5 or so in the bargain section of my local Borders, but you can get it on Amazon too:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1592234046/qid=1119461532/sr=1-42/ref=sr_1_42/102-5014486-8832902?v=glance&s=books

The illustrations are fantastic, and they got me thinking of building some dino models.

Regards,

-Drew

Might be the paint, though the paint I used was flat... Ah well, I like the look

If I could find my other green, he would have.... But alas, it has run away >.<

Sure does, just not sure how to get good shots still... Though most of my kits are pretty big, so it's rare I have camera problems...

I have a small tri-pod that went missing... I believe the bf put it somewhere and never told me where.......

Thanks for the tips and thanks everyone else, too ^__^

Since there's another bigish dino in the set, I'll try to take these tips and use em on that one...

I see no problems with the stripes but I would suggest a wash to blend it all in. This will dirty the T-rex a bit up and show some shadow.
The sharp contrast between the white teeth/claws and green skin wil lessen with a wash.

If you don't have that, use the zoom feature and move back from the subject and use the amximum amount of zoom.

He's a 1/32 baby T-Rex made by Tamiya (he comes in a set with a few other creatures of the time also, so expect to see those some time... It's a good set for quick kits )

still not 100% fond of how the strips came out, but I think they look good enough for just being hand brushed... The puttying of the joints was a bit hard, but even that I managed to do, although I barely puttyed one arm since you couldn't see the seam even if you tried...

I think I'm going to buy the bigger T-Rex and put it and this one together in the future...

So yeah, comments, questions? I'm sure I forgot some things...

Also, why is it so hard to take pictures of small things without them being blurry? -__- Ah well, most turned out good
