Ral Partha - 28mm Amethyst Dragon
Posted by madmike on Friday, June 24, 2005 5:25 AM
My lovely wife's latest vignette..

"Magic of the Orb"

Lori used an older Ral Partha 25mm Amethyst Dragon and several Reaper Miniatures accessories. The base is an old dome clock stripped back and a new dolls house moziac sealed paper base added. The perspex dome was professionally cut down and polished to act as the display cover.

The vignette was painted using a mixture of Citadel and Vallejo paints. The spell book has runes added using a 0.005 black archive marker.

Lori took Gold with her vignette at the WASMEx state comps in 2004 and this month took 1st in large scale figures at our club finals. She beat my 120mm high Bandai Marauder Battlemech Thumbs Up [tup]

Here are the pics, hope you like them!

cheers

Wayne this was my entry in the FSM Sci Fi Ground Assault GB

Kit is a 1:200 Bandai Officers Pod kit from Macross/Robotech. FASA licensed a lot of the Macross 'mechs for it's Battletech game. Harmony Gold eventually did not allow FASA to renew its license and the mechs become "the unseen" . All publications with illustrations of the ex Macross mechs were re-published with different Battlemechs.

The kit would work out to be closer to 1:72 (14m tall) for Battletech.

This is a 3028 era MAD-3R Marauder Heavy Battlemech from the command lance of the 1st Company Federated Suns 1st Armoured Cavalry. This regiment are a hard hitting House Davion unit with mostly medium mechs. I would imagine a company commander would have a heavier 'mech as his personal ride.

The Marauder masses 75 tonnes and is one of the most feared battlemechs in the Inner Sphere. It's crab like shape boasts a heavy armament of twin PPC's (particle projection cannon), twin medium lasers and a AC5 Autocannon.

Kit went together well although I had to glue some of the articulated joints to ensure some rigidity. Filler was needed on almost every join.

Brush painted using Vellejo and Ceramcoat acrylic paints. Base is a custom base. Decals are from Fighting Piranha (used for decalling the Battletech game miniatures).

1st Federated Suns Armoured Cavalry mechs most often field an overall Davion Green camoflage.

Ok, without much further ado, here are the pics...

Hope you all like it!

cheers

Great work on the Dragon. Ral Partha made some of the best Fantasy figures. Shame they went out of business.

BTW, the BattleMech looks great also.

Thanks for the congrats and kind words. I have also painted a silver dragon. Then there is the black dragon who will end up in a diorama with a knight and a resin ruin keep set in a swamp (a black dragon's favorite hangout).

Rick

Your blue dragon is gorgeous. As per your request here is a pic of my silver dragon (aka a Steel Dragon). I did some research (read a monsters gaming book) and found that according to the AD&D Monsters Book Silver Dragons have no front legs; which is precisely what this particular dragon is missing. I've named the model "The Summoning" as you can clearly see that a high priestess has her eyes closed and her arms up calling for the dragon.
