Animal Pelts

How would you paint an animal pelt on a figure? I'm thinking any animal but I really need to know about a deer skin. It might be helpful for others to include many types of animals though. Ideas?

Is this a scuplted kit?
Depending on the level of detail, I'd start with ModelMaster acryl raw sienna, a good buckskin color. If there's belly or under tail hair, Id' use a warm off white shade. If there's good texture, I'd use a darker brown very thin wash over hte umber and a darkened version of the belly color on the white. I'd darken the umber with a warm brown amd add shading to the folds then lighten it and add highlights to the ridges. Without texture, I'd skip the wash and just shade and highlight.
Other animals have different colors and I'd adjust accordingly.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
