Drew, thin the oils with mineral spirits. Just apply it lightly, It shouldn't damage the acrylic.

Model Master makes very good acryl paints that I find are easy to make a wash with.. you can't see too much detail in my dio in my signature, but it's all MM acryls

Rick,

I'll give that a shot. What do I thin the oil paint with, and will the mineral spirits take off the acrylic paint that's already on the figure?

Swanny uses something called Grumbacher paste for his washes. It wipes off with water. I was thinking of trying that, or maybe the tempera paint like the article in the recent FSM.

Regards,

-Drew

Looks pretty good Drew, but the faces might benefit from a wash. I would try a very thin wash with Burnt Sienna oil paint. If you don't like it, you should be able to remove it with some mineral spirits.

Thanks, James.

It's a lot of work at that scale, but the figures are good, and they look good in the cockpit.

I'm not quite happy with the faces, and I'd like to try a wash of some sort. But I'm not sure what kind of wash works well with acrylics.

Two 1/72 scale pilot figures I painted...

Hi all,

Here are the two pilot figures I painted this weekend:
.

.
I really tried to get a bit more variation on the clothing by dry brushing a lighter color than the base color on the wrinkles.

I think the faces turned out okay too, but they were tough at this scale.

They're from the Orion Pilots of the First World War set of 1/72 scale figures. More info on that set can be found here:
