IMEX 1:72 Korean War Figures
Posted by TomZ2 on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 11:51 AM
This post is in the nature of a "heads up!" to anyone planning on buying IMEX's 1:72 Korean War Figures based on the pre-release box art: caveat emptor

BACKGROUND: I ordered IMEX's Korean War Chinese Troops (No. 531) because the pre-release box art showed figures in WINTER uniforms. (My hand/eye coordination isn't sufficient for me to sculpt the Chinese/Korean quilted uniforms in 1:72, thus I was overjoyed when IMEX announced that they would be selling what was beyond my ability to fabricate.)

PROBLEM: The Chinese People's Liberation Army (note the revised name!) that arrived were in SUMMER uniforms. Dead [xx(]

ACTION: I looked at the box. Clown [:o)] The art had been redrawn -- the 5 figures shown were now in summer uniforms. I compared the artwork on all figure sets in IMEX's announced Korean War series: U.S.Infantry (No. 529), R.P.O.K. Troops (No. 530), Chinese Troops (No. 531), and Chinese N.K.A Troops (No. 532) to what was actually available: United States Army (No. 529), Republic of Korea Troops (No. 530), Chinese People's Liberation Army (No. 531), and North Korean K.P.A Troops (No. 532). All had new artwork and name changes. Disapprove [V]

As I said: caveat emptor

Some of each -- a few figures were cast with separate arms, but most are one piece. About what you'd expect. I'm planning a little transplant surgery to get enough different figures to fill out an automatic weapons squad realistically.

BTW, I suspect that no small part of the renaming I already reported can be traced back to the "Made in China" on the box.
