Marvel Comics Models should be ashamed of themselves
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 9, 2005 11:39 PM
Holy crap. Are all the marvel comics models of such bad fit as "The Hulk"?
A friend of ours found a model of it in the garbage next to her house, after some people moved out. Completely shrinkwrapped.
I just got back into modelling after about 15 years, and thought this would be a fun one to build with my 5 year old grandson. I mean, it says skill level 2.

Yeah right. Skill level 2 if you want huge holes and ghastly super obvious seams.

This is probably one of the worst fitting models I have ever built. It's going to take hours of filling and sanding to make it presentable. They should be ashamed of themselves for the poor quiality of what should be a simple kit.

Pathetic. Especially when you see the level of quality the new Star-Wars revell snap fit models have.

Now now.... Can you blame the comic? Rather, who manufactured the model kit? There's where to shoot the bullets.

Well, Marvel probably licensed the kit, so...

Is it the one from Toybiz or the Polar Lights reissue?
Could it be that the plastic was warped from being in a hot garage for awhile?

Sounds like the Toybiz kit to me.
They aren't the best fit but can be made pretty decent.
Here is my Spiderman.

Only ever had 2 Toy-biz kits and they were BAAAD which might explain why they went out of business.
One kit had 2 part duplicate and one missing part the other simply had 2 missing parts, at the time I got them ToyBiz was already gone so they went ino the trash.

Problem is that there are a few GOOD people to sculpt and create resin kits of both DC and Marvel characters but they can't afford the licencing fees and thus are faced with C&D orders or worse.

BTW, wasn't toy-biz a toy-maker that tried to break into the plastic-model field after horizon did the belly-up thingy?.

FYI, also not to impressed with the experiences I had with the Polar Lights kits(missing/ duplicate parts galore) and their poor after-service, which is a pity as they had a lot of kits I wanted but was bot wiling to risk my cash on them. Wink [;)]

Hench-I built the Polar Lights 'Hulk" for a friend-wasn't too bad nor good-I think the comic-based kits are rushed into production.

ToyBiz as a company still exists, AFAIK, they simply left the kit game.
Which is a pity as I would love to have on of their Ghost Rider Kits, I have heard horror stories about the kit but am willing to give it a shot.

Too scared to bit for/buy one online since I might get another kit with missing or duplicate parts.

The only one I ever built was the Captain America dio with the Red Skull for a friend a few years back. It only had one real gap on one of Caps shoulders that was easily fixed. I haven't tried any of the others but I enjoyed the Cap dio. i have been afraid t try the other because the horror stories. i'd like to build the thing...

I built these Toybiz kits last year. They all had fit problems, but with some elbow grease, can be turned into decent figure models:
