how to make equipment straps
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 2:29 PM
Okay, I finally got ahold of some lead foil, but have absolutely no idea how to correctly turn it into straps. It's going to be used for a bandolier and a rifle strap for a 1903 springfield. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Simlpy cut it into thin strips with either a pair of scissors or an xacto knife. Add a buckle, paint, and you have a strap.

To get consistant straps I usually use 2 blades taped together and add 1 or more blades between them as needed, and then use a straight edge to guide the blade, this way I can make quick straps consistantly everytime.

In addition to the above suggestions. I have found it easier to cut lead foil on glass (less resistance for the blade) I use a drink coaster that came in a gift pack from the liquor store. As long as the glass surface is clean pretty much any size works best. Just be sure to use on a solid surface to avoid breaking the glass as you press down.

Depending on scale try paper or even real fabric. This extra details make the scene come alive.
