The Russian tank crews started wearing black leather jackets late in WW II, probably after capturing German tankers. The German tankers (primarily the SS crews) started wearing U-Boat leather jackets around 1944. The Russians were always good at taking an idea and running with it. So yes, painting a modern Russian tanker with a black jacket is appropriate, for as far as I know they still use them. Those leather helmets are still dark brown, though... no points for matching the outfit, I guess. I believe the cloth uniform is still dark green or khaki drab, so the figure would have green pants with the black jacket.
