Speedform Finally Done
Posted by robertburns on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 12:54 AM
For my model building techniques class, we had to build what is called a Speedform. We must design it, sculpt it in of clay, make a mold, fiberglass it, then finish it. We had only one weekend to do the clay sculpting part (which was new to us), but we all got it done for our final.

The process is documented at:

My inspiration for the design was to make something I can later turn into a 1/24th scale Federation Fighter. I plan to recast the form in RTV, make a resin copy, and add Soverign class Nacells to it. It'll have the familiar ship markings with Squardron decals on Starship grey paint.
The shape can also be used for a few other items. Comments are most welcome. Thanks, Rob.

Interesting. Is this like a Community College course, or are you in school for Industrial Design or something? Neat stuff.

That was absolutely fascinating.  That seems like a cool course to take.
