My take on the conversion subject is that they want want you to support them and their creativity and not let your own creative be shown. I left a new thread reminding them they are in the same position when they replicate any small arms in miniature without any licensing from the small arms manufactures. I personaly believe that they don't want to share their expertise, which detracts from the hobby as a whole. I believe creativity is a big aspect of the hobby and is what makes models individual and unique.

Charlie, I hope that didn't deter you from modifying, modling and casting your own figures.  I truly believe that modeling is about your creativity and making your imagination come true.  And No one has right to say "you can't do that because you are Pissing me off!" If you purchase the product and modify into something that fits your taste, I don't know why some people would feel like it infringes on their copyrights.  It's like I buy Honda accord and put ground effects, supercharger and flaming pinstripes with 2 dice on my rear view mirror and some one saying "I'm offended because I also have similar set up on my Honda.  I don't see how it infringes on their copyrights.  Oh well..............  I guess some people take this hobby more serious than some of us.

ESCI (no longer in business) had modern US infantry set, but this was about 10 years ago, so not so modern compared to today's standard.  However, those figures did have M16A2's and other modern weaponary and should be able to do minor conversion to make it more suitable for your needs.

Preiser has 2 sets out and is releasing a 3rd.
You can also look at 20mm wargame figures.  A lot more variety out there (check out Liberation Models).

Preiser makes Modern US troops and Propraganda Kompanie has announced set 721016 Modern US Troops for helicopter but, price is high-14.50 for six figures. Revell AG makes Modern US Troops in Polyvinyl-soft plastic.
