Although I have not built the exact figure that you are speaking of, it is in my pile of "to build later" kits (which seems to grow at an almost alarming arate at times).  Anyway, I have built around 10 of the DML figures so far in their 1/16 scale line, and have enjoyed each one immensly.  I use Tenax 7R for gluing the parts, and have had few if any fit issues with these kits.

As far as the paints are concerned, I have been using Humbrol enamels for the uniforms of my figures as the paint seems to brush on better than the Model Master paints.  For the flesh, I have mostly used Humbrol 63 (sand) for a base coat and then used oil paints on top.  I did recently purchase a Valejo flesh paint set (it comes with six colors) and have used it on two heads and one set of hands thus far.  As I am used to the blending capabilities of the oil paints, this has been a new experience for me, and I will want to try it some more before I consider switching entirely to the acrylics for flesh.

Of course as the previous respondent commented, the most important thing with paints is using what you find works the best for you.  Good luck with the figure.Pirate [oX)]

If you're gonna use acrylics, go with Vellejo. They are engineered for figure painting and work really well with a brush. That's what all the master figure painters who use acrylics use.

The rest use mainly oils, which is my choice. Oils are ultimately easier to blend, but they do take a day or so to dry fully. There are ways to accellerate the cure time though. I use Vellejo for my base coats and then paint the oils on top.

Bill Horan uses Humbrol almost exclusively, with some oils for deep, rich shadows.

Ultimately, the rule of the road is whatever works, so if MM works best for you, then that's the ticket. You should try some things out though first, to see what works, and get some figure magazines to see what the best are up to. It's a good motivator and gives some incentive to keep working to get better.
