Check out Osprey's books. I'm not sure if they've got a book on the modern Russian Army, but I think they have several on late Soviet era stuff. Osprey is heavy on text, but it's pretty comprehensive. They do have many pictures, but the highlight are the eight or so color plate pages in the center, with explanations in the back. I've got a gigantic collection of Osprey titles and they are a staple to most of my projects.

You might also look into Europa Militaria books. They have some great titles that include lots of pictures of live models wearing actual uniforms and equipment. Though, I just did a quick check online and couldn't find any titles along those lines.

Schiffer Publications does have a number of books on modern Soviet and Russian vehicles, which also shows pics of soldiers operating with the vehicles. Might be some good stuff there.

Thank!  I have all of the Osprey books that have modern Russian/ Soviet subjects, but that is only 3 books.  Anybody else know, even titles would be great.  Thanks!

Uh-1V:
Get a copy of Schiffer's Camouflage uniforms of the Soviet union and Russia 1937-present (that would be '92) Though a dated it's still an excellent reference book
Another reference in French is Raids Hors-Séries  N 1  Tchetchenie
The booklet covers the first Chechnean war

That's all I can think of

Inside the Soviet Military by Carrie Schofield. I looked for this book for years and couldn't find it. Now I see it in most bookstores I visit. You can get it at a good price too. Without a doubt, the best book, photography wise, on the Soviet Military at the end of the Cold War. It's basically a coffee table book on the subject. Lots of pictures, all large and in color, all previously unseen.

Weapons and Tactics of the Soviet Army by David Isby is another excellent book.
