I figure it would take some surgery to scratchbuild a M16 Keyhole. Either removing the M203 or taking a M16A2 and attaching a cut down shotgun where the M203 would be. It might be interesting since the M16 Keyhole is a seldom seen weapon.

For late '90s figures, as he wants to depict, the M60 could still be around, it was in transition at that time.

For some updated weapons, Dragon has M249 SAWs, M240 MGs and Shotguns in their Modern Machine Gun and Fire Support Weapons sets.

Gino all 4 figures need new weapons true 3 need new model M-16's but the 4th needs the M60 replaced with a M240 SAW of course if there are any AM weapons out there that also contain a shotgun that would be great too since shotguns are used for breaching of entryways.

I also remember that the Airforce Security forces also had several M16A2 Keyholes. M16's with a 12 gauge Mossberg or Remington pump action shotguns in place of the M203 grenade launchers.

BTW I forgot one of the lesser known plastic model companies came out with modern US Infantry for the Afghanistan conflict...

I assume you are talking about the ICM Anti-Terror Forces.  They come in various boxings.  Below is one w/ Taliban fighters as well.  They are about the same quality as Dragon's ODS-era figures.  Their weapons are old though.  They carry M16A1s, so you would need to update them to M16A2s or M4s for the late '90s.

For resin, Verlinden used to make a set of Modern tankers, and Warriors has a couple as well.

well as for the Dragon M1A1 crew I have that same package but I had gotten mine in the late 90's so you would need only 3 out of the 4 figures The TC the Gunner and the driver. As for the driver his hands are posed for use with the T-Bar in the M1A1. So you will need to remove the hands from the arms and rotate them 90 degrees till it looks like the driver is using a steering wheel with his left hand in the 9 o'clock position and his right hand in the 3 o'clock position (the knuckles at least have to be in the 9 and 3 position but the top and bottom of the hands have to be in the 12 and 6 position)  sort of like this l l instead of this - -. Now one innacuracy of the M1A1 crew figure set is that the TC is holding a M3 "Grease Gun" this gun is no longer in use it has been replaced by the M4 Carbine or otherwise known as the CAR-15.  Avus CMK came out with a modern tank crew some time ago and I have 2 packs that I got from Squadron and they are resin in many parts. I think I got them 7 years ago. And I don't think Verlinden had any modern tank figures saw a few Modern US infantrymen though but not a whole lot. BTW I forgot one of the lesser known plastic model companies came out with modern US Infantry for the Afghanistan conflict check Squadron or Great model for those kits and any others.

As far as styrene figures are concerned HeavyArty and Mikeym_us covered the available kits. But if you want to consider resin, too, Verlinden, Warriors, Nemrod, Alpine, Hobby Fan and Blast have modern kits.

Of course resin means prices go up!

Tamiya's Moderm Infantry figures (#35133) and Desert Infantry (#35153) are quite bad.  They are anorexic and really represent early '80s figures.  Both are the same set, with 2 extra figures in the Desert set (which are poor copies of two of Dragon's figures, hmm?).  Their weapons are M16A1s, which were pretty much totally replaced with M16A2s by '90 as well.  The tankers in their older Modern US Equipment Set (# 35141) are better than the Modern Infantry, but not much. I wouldn't use either of them.  They are pretty bad, nowhere near the quality of Dragon's figures.  Dragon's are the best plastic figures on the market and they offer the widest selection.

Also, Dragon's tank crew in their M1A1HA kit are the same ones I am talking about.  They also come as a separate kit (#3020).

you also forgot Tamiya's modern infantry figures. There are 2 sets one in Desert BDU's and the other set in woodland Camo. and as for crew figures look for Tamiya's Modern military equipment set (the first set not the one that contains the CIP panels) or you could get Dragons M1A1 crew set.

DML makes a whole line of modern-ish US figures.  They are from ODS era ('90-'91), but will work for any soldier from the mid-'80s through late '90s.  Check them out here, look for the 3000 line #s.  They also have a Modern US Tank Crew that would work for the Bradley crew.  If you get the Tamiya M2A2 ODS, it comes with two crew figures too.

They also have a set of Modern US Marines for OIF 1.

They can also be used as Army soldiers from OIF too.
